A BIT ABOUT ME

I was born November 3, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. At five years old I moved to West Los Angeles and I was an active gang member, which led me to incarceration in numerous institutions including: juvenile hall, County jail, and adult prison. From the ages of 16-39 I was in and out of correctional facilities for various crimes, and eventually I turned my life around while serving time in Tehachapi State Prison when I became a part of a mentorship program for at-risk youth that sought to reduce the recidivism rate. In May of 2013, I was released from Federal prison and shortly thereafter I published the renowned and top-selling cookbook, Prison Ramen, which includes recipes, and anecdotes by personalities such as Clifton Collins Jr, Samuel L. Jackson, Shia LaBeouf, Slash from Guns n’ Roses, among others. I've served as a consultant to numerous film productions and have written several screenplays.  I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and impressed by the influence it has on people and the decisions they make in life. I love engaging with the projects I work on, diving headfirst into the research, investigation, and production of stories I feel are worth writing about. I am a curious and proactive Author, interested in preserving the gift I've been blessed with.
